Karyn’s first experience at the Seacoast Learning Center began in 2005, when her own daughter became a student. Like many parents, Karyn has experienced feelings of frustration, concern, and helplessness while trying to support a child with dyslexia.   Karyn became a “dyslexia warrior” while she was seeking solutions for her own children.  After her daughter  graduated from the Center, Karyn realized that she wanted to learn more about dyslexia, and staying connected to the Center’s community has made her a better parent for both of her children.  In May 2010, Karyn began her Orton-Gillingham, Level 1 Training.   She became certified in January 2012, and she began working as one of the Center’s professional staff tutors.   Karyn completed her Advanced Training and Supervisor Training in 2016.   She supervised teachers in the School District Cohort in 2016, 2017, and 2018.  Karyn completed the Instructor of Instructor’s Training in May 2017 and along with Susan Hourihan became a co-trainer for the School District Cohorts in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. She has been the outside trainer for the Practitioner 1 course at the Rhode Island Center in 2021, 2022 and 2023. Karyn holds a degree in accounting and in 2018 left her 24-year accounting career to devote more time and energy to the Seacoast Learning Center.  In May 2023, Karyn passed the CALT exam, and became a member of ALTA. Since 2019, she has been serving as Treasurer of the International Dyslexia Association-Northern New England Alliance.
